Info
Task Force Rangers (TFR) is a Counter-Strike 1.6 team. Competing primarily in online leagues, TFR has been around since early 2003, and at different times has participated in CAL-O, CAL-IM, UGS-O and UGS-M. TFR is currently in CAL-IM for Season 22. You can find us in the #TFR channel on the GameSurge IRC network.
History
Four or five years ago Task Force Rangers was originally a pub clan that thrived with a popular Atlantic pub server and a constant stream of community members posting in the forums. If it weren't for guys like Gumby, Richbuff, SgtSlaughter, Superbee, and a few others, TFR wouldn't have become what it is. In the spring of 2003, a few of the guys in the clan decided to join CAL-O and see how they could compete with teams who actually played the game the way it was meant to be played. In doing so, they had a good season (Season 8) with a 5-3 record and a moveup to CAL-IM. At the time the main roster consisted of Cyberwrath, Bleedingsnow, Xander, PDO, X-Force, and whitey. Along the way, TFR made good friends with some clans, mainly Orange County Elite (#oce), after having played with them in another lower level league (WCCS) and generally just being good buds. Another clan worth mentioning at the time was Minds in the Making (MiM) a group of college buds and friends who played a couple of seasons in CAL-O. Guys like Discombobulator, Term, and tw34k were always good friends of TFR, ringing for us or helping us whenever we asked. Next season in Cal-IM we had low expectations, but performed well beyond what we believed we were capable of... an 11-5 record and a ticket to the playoffs gave us hopes of Cal-M and future endeavors in CS. Having a 20something seed in the playoffs we would immediately start out against the good teams; old school killaz being the first. We won that match decisively on de_cpl_mill, then went on to lose to Internal Fearz (undefeated CAL-IM season). That season our roster comprised of PDO, Cyberwrath, Whitey, BleedingSnow, Xander and eventually switch, who joined in the middle of the season. The next season came with high expectations from ourselves and a few other people, but TFR took a turn for the worse. After cutting xander (our best player) and inactivity from 2 or 3 players, we got no practice time and won no matches. The clan died in the middle of the season, and everyone sort of separated. During this time, MiM reformed into a new team called rra, and ocE was tearing CAL-IM a new one.
After being inactive one full season, some of the guys decided to reform the clan in CAL-O and UGS-O to have fun again. At the time it was PDO, Breckish, Cyberwrath, BleedingSnow, Discombobulator (from rra), and Whitey... but shortly afterwords Snow and Cyber went inactive from CS, and breckish decided to get a life. So PDO, Disco and Whitey were kind of screwed. But, the decision was made to merge rra with TFR, thus forming the CAL-O Season 12 roster. Decode, Fluff, Disco, and Alan combined with TFR's Whitey, PDO and Breckish to form the revised team. Right before playoffs, rebeL also joined the team. We ended the CAL season going 8-2, making the second round of playoffs, and securing a move up to CAL-IM. Our final record in UGS was 7-1, with a playoffs seed, but we somehow forfeited our first playoffs match, killing our guaranteed move up.
In CAL-IM Season 13, difficulties again arose. Only two weeks into the season, people started going inactive. Soon, we were down to only two people who were interested in practicing at all. We managed to pull together five people for every match, but most often the five had not played at all in the previous week. Add to that an unfortunate incident with a gen-x where a forfeit was incorrectly reported, and we ended up with a 4-4 record. At the end of this season CAL-IM was abolished, in part to encourage teams to move from CS 1.6 to CS:Source, and our record was not good enough for a move up to CAL-M. So, we were forced back to CAL-O.
For CAL-O Season 14, TFR lost one of its members (PDO), but was been joined by a couple of blasts from the past (BleedingSnow and CyberWrath). We didn't practice much, but we did alright with a 6-2 season record. We lost in the first round of playoffs, but for some reason got moved up to CAL-IM, where we were in Season 15. Things fell apart near the end of the season, and it became difficult to even get five players for matches.
After a season off, we got back together again for Season 17 and we played in CAL-O. For CAL Season 18 we made a few roster changes and continued in CAL-O, doing well enough to get moved up to CAL-IM. As we tend to do, we made it about halfway through CAL-IM Season 19 before having roster problems, and we dropped out before the end of the season.
For CAL Season 21 we went back to CAL-O and made it into the playoffs, securing a move-up to CAL-IM with a 7-4 record. Now we're doing CAL-IM again in Season 22. And the circle of life continues...
